This is the official website of the Hillsdale Volunteer Fire Department. The “HFD” serves the town of Hillsdale, in Bergen County, New Jersey. Hillsdale is a suburban borough of approximately 10,100 residents, and covers 2.98 square miles in the heart of the Pascack Valley. We provide residents with primary fire and rescue services. We also provide primary mutual aid to the surrounding towns of Emerson, Montvale, River Vale, Old Tappan, Park Ridge, Washington Township, Westwood, and Woodcliff Lake when necessary.
We're dispatched through the Hillsdale Police Department. We respond to calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Generally our response order is Engine 34, followed by Tower 31, then Rescue 36, ending with Engine 33. The response order will vary if the call is a rescue, brush fire, car fire, etc. Both our Chief and Deputy Chief respond directly to the scene, as do our two captains.
Round-the-clock fire safety and protection depends on countless volunteers who must spend time away from their work and families to help others (you?) in times of need. We also spend time away from our families on a regular basis to keep up with our training, to provide specific coverage for certain town events, and to run general fire department business. In return, we rely on you to provide us with patience when we won’t allow you down your street (it’s for your own safety!), caution when you hear the siren (keep in mind it could be YOUR house we are responding to some day), and financial assistance. With your continued support, we can provide a safe, cost-effective service to our community!
